TAMPA, FLA -- Gas prices continue to rise, according to the latest Fuel Price Brief from AAA-South.
The Tampa-based Auto Club prices will continue to trend higher throughout the rest of the month. In Florida, drivers are paying an average price of $3.44 per gallon, an increase of 5 cents from the week before.
Nationally, prices rose by only a penny to an average of $3.31 per gallon.
AAA spokeswoman Jessica Brady says gas prices across the southeast have risen by nearly a dime since Jan. 1. Brady says the forecast for the rest of 2013 is more positive for drivers.
"Gas prices are expected to average less this year because of lower demand and increased domestic oil production," said Brady. "While gas is forecast to cost less this year, motorists will see prices inch up in the short term, before they stabilize and/or retreat."
Oil prices also climbed last week.
On Friday, crude oil was trading at $93.56 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, 44 cents more than one week ago.
