Despite falling for the past several weeks, gas prices spiked last week, according to AAA-South.
The latest Fuel Price Brief from Tampa-based AAA-South indicates that in Florida, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline rose by a nickel to $3.38 per gallon.
AAA spokeswoman Jessica Brady said more unrest in the Middle East was likely to blame for the spike in gas prices.
"Both oil and gas prices are forecast to decrease after the cease fire agreement between Israel and Hamas," said Brady. "The tensions between Israel and its surrounding nations caused oil prices to increase which may have led to the hike in retail gas prices before the holiday weekend.
Crude oil prices rose slightly last week. On Friday, oil was trading for $88.28 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gasoline rose by a penny to $3.42 per gallon.
