Two of Casey Anthony's convictions for lying to law enforcement officers over the disappearance of her daughter Caylee were upheld this morning by the Fifth District Court of Appeal in Daytona Beach-- the other two were overturned.
The panel agreed with Anthony's lawyers that two of the convictions amounted to double jeopardy. You can't be convicted more than once for the same crime.
Today's decision could impact the civil defamation lawsuit brought against Anthony by Zenaida Gonzalez-- "Zanny the Nanny"-- whom Anthony claimed took Caylee. That was one of the alleged lies Anthony told investigators who were trying to find her daughter.
A jury found Anthony not guilty of murdering her two year old daughter, but the panel did convict her of lying to detectives.
A date for the civil defamation suit has not yet been set.
